Prison is there for punishment, not just keeping the public safe, but punishing offenders.

You keep changing your argument Vinny. I think it might be time to stop digging now?

How is my argument different? I am saying keep murderers in prison. Whole life for killing a life.
Only let them out IF new evidence turns up which proves innocence.

Aren't there 3 aspects to imprisonment?
Public safety Punishment Rehabilitation.
In the absence of the death penalty the safest way to keep the public safe is to keep them inside for the rest of their natural life. When a judge gives a minimum term, that must be the punishment aspect, as according to some people they might be "safe" to release in a shorter time. Rehabilitation sometimes works, but I think that's better left to lesser offences.
