that are better value.
By which we mean all those things we already promised to do but can't afford coz we've screwed the economy will now get done with the money from HS2.
And the money will go to the Northern powerhouse.
That's north as in Bristol, Ely and Cambridge to Oxford.

How much do you think would be too much to spend on HS2? - or is there no limit?

How much do you think would be too much to spend on HS2? - or is there no limit? What's that got to do with it. I'm against HS2. I'm also against the Tories pretending its extra money for other projects.

if the Tories save £100 billion by scrapping HS2 what is preventing them spending that money on something else?

if the Tories save £100 billion by scrapping HS2 what is preventing them spending that money on something else? The fact the economy is so shot that they haven't got £100Bn to spend on anything.

Just for the record, we haven’t saved £100bn by scrapping HS2. In the real world you don’t recover monies already spent or contracted if you scrap a project midway.

Some of the things Sunak promised to do where finished years ago. And who knew the Bristol underground system was in the northern powerhouse.

Acccording to the Command Paper "Network North: Transforming British Transport" presented to Parliament last week, scrapping the northern leg of HS2 will save £19.8 billion:
"Every penny of the £19.8 billion committed to the Northern leg of HS2 will be reinvested in the North; every penny of the £9.6 billion1 committed to the Midlands leg will be reinvested in the Midlands; and the full £6.5 billion1 saved through our rescoped approach at Euston will be spread across every other region in the country."
It's created a huge controversy about the legendary "£36 billion", whether it exists at all, and if it does how much is new money and how many projects were actually already funded.

Watching Mark Harper on Victoria Darbyshire yesterday it looks like much is for already announced projects that they didn't have the funding for, but will pass the buck to the elected mayors...

As an aside. I find Victoria Derbyshire gets far better answers than Laura Kunsberg. Victoria addresses the answer given while Laura just keeps repeating the original question.

The problem Labour have they are shit at maths, Abbott is a example, when asked where 'all this money' is coming from for this, that and the other... they sing dumb, because they realise what they've already 'promised' if they get in, means they've already run out of other people's money ... LOL
So where is the Labour Magic money tree?
