Quick question, Doc: how do you arrive at your decision to close threads? You shut down a thread recently on the basis it was just an exchange of insults. Are you about to shut this thread down on the basis of your response? If you feel insulted then use the report function.. Won't you explain the criteria you use? It looks to me that you're in the process of creating the kind of scenario you like to deal with in your usual heavy-handed way by closing the thread.

You report a thread - the moderators consider your report with regards the rules of the forum and come to a consensus on what action to take. All pretty normal moderating.

Are you about to shut this thread down on the basis of your response? If you feel insulted then use the report function.. I don't feel insulted. I'm curious. There's a difference. You closed a thread recently because people were acting in the way you're now acting. At least, that's how it appears. I'm curious to know what criteria you use. It would be very helpful to rest of us to know how to avoid your closing down yet another thread.

Well as I have already said - if you dont like a post (for whatever reason) then report it. You know very well that I don't mind your post. You closed down a thread recently because of a few exchanged insults. Yet, your first response on this thread wasn't to address the Swiss overturning of a referendum but to deliver an insult. I'm not insulted. How could I be insulted by an off-the-rack gif? It's not as if it's a product of your imagination, so how could anyone take it personally? I'm simply asking you to clarify. Can you see how that's a different thing? You close down threads when you could simply remove the offending posts. Your approach seems heavy-handed and disproportionate. I assume you're operating according to some criteria. It would be helpful to all if you would clarify what they are. Otherwise, it looks like one rule for you and another for everyone else.

Not really, Ned. The Swiss court held that there is no 'free' election in the presence of misinformation. Then these people are either in-patient level idiots, or dishonest

There is no such thing as a democracy cleared of misinformation. The courts can't control what the man down the pub says. They can control what politicians say.

Those seeking to be elected or have their policies put into effect shouldn't be allowed to tell lies about facts. They can make as many false predictions as they please, but they can't lie about current facts. It's not a big ask. The Swiss system is a gammon favourite, and that's how things work there.

Any updates on your elusive criteria for closing threads, Doc? Due to a post being reported I am sitting this one out and allowing the other Mods to determine any action.
