Well hopefully not. The EU offered us a moratorium on FoM before we left because of our particular circumstances. I would hope before re-joining we would sort out these issues. Not actually the whole truth, they gave a time limit. Yes 4 years. I always thought it was a shame Cameron never mentioned it as it painted the EU in a much better light.

You would have made out they were doing us a right favour if it hadn't been pointed out though. Who the feck do they think they are Zany?

The EU will not let us re join without FOM . We will have to join the single currency and pay them lots of money too. True. I wasn't proposing no FoM just one with conditions. The EU recognised that with English being the most common second language we attracted less skilled workers. That and our benefits free at the point of usage were the major issues. Yes we will need to join the Euro, but I see no issue with that. Paying our membership fees instead of paying for all the compliance checks etc ourselves has never bothered me.

I was making out that they were "Doing us a favour" the 4 years doesn't really change that. Do you understand why FoM is necessary in an open trade zone?

No really you were making out they doing us a favour with half a story, well I never. I didn't know the open trade zone also included over half the third world either.

Productivity is the amount of value created for each hour that is worked - so if investment in technology means that 1 worker can have the same output as 10 workers previously productivity has improved. You dont increase productivity by hiring more workers. You have not answered the question of who is going to pay all that unemployment benefit?
And no. There are many jobs that cant be replaced by automation...teaching, health care, home delivery, research, for example. Even though tech is involved, it requires people to use it. Unlike France we have a shortage of workers and low unemployment - so we need people to change careers.

Id rather stay out but if the majority want to re join so be it . Not for a decade or two though.

Unlike France we have a shortage of workers and low unemployment - so we need people to change careers. Your answer does not address my question. If you lower unrm0loyment, you may get higher waged, though i doubty it. But if wzges do go up, durvto fewer emplouees, unemployment will go up in an environment of higher wzges and thus prices. So the unemployment levels will have to go up. Who is going to pay for that? Raise taxes? Then any rise in pay becomes pointless. If shortage of labour puts pay up, carers would be very well paid indeed. Pay depends on productivity but also skills level. If you can be replaced easily, you are xorth less. Pay is determined by many issues, not just supply and demand. Real life isnt that simple.

Why didn't all those low paid workers in the gig economy become lorry drivers or nurses. That is a problem we need to fix!

Not for a decade or two though. It will probably not happen for another few years anyway even as the government recognise the change of public mood they will know the difficulties of joining are not needed at the moment.
