Awful news and also shows that so so many of our police are the good guys. Thoughts mainly with his family and colleagues but I'd really like to know what was behind that supposed 'distressed person' that in no small way caused his death.

Probably another "Care in the community" mental patient threatening suicide on the railway.
An object lesson in why one should never go onto the tracks to rescue someone else.

When the shit hits the fan coppers are expected to stand up to the plate . That’s why I’m not inclined to take the side of a pissed teenager calling a copper a ‘ lesbian nana “ after being taken home ( Autistic or not ).

That would seem likely and yes but the policeman's motives were applaudable. He's died a hero. My guess is that drugs or lack of taking essential drugs will be a factor.

What exactly happened? It is without a doubt a tragedy that another police officer has died in the line of duty, but as far as I can tell and I accept I may have missed something, the circumstances of what happened seem to be unclear.

The pillocks are the ones who support the little drunken git who disrespected a copper who helped her and can’t get their head around the idea that real police do not operate like the ones on the telly .

Well i had to read between the lines a bit across several newspspers but when we read ‘a police officer was called to the scene to aid a distressed man’ who later in the article we read ‘is being treated for electrocution injuries’ i’m guessing for distressed read either ‘suicidal’, ‘off his face on booze and / or drugs’ or, as is the case with a cousin of mine after a catastrophic heatstroke on Ten Tors with the TA, ‘off his face through not taking the prescribed drugs’. Either way it seems he either succeeded in his aim of getting belted by some high voltage or accidentally caused that, and the copper for whatever reason got hit by a train on the track while helping him I’ve freelanced for TfL or LuL as it was then and its terrifying having the underground trains whip by unannounced a few feet from where you are working. I cant imagine one at full speed. Poor sod.

It's obviously a tragedy for the sergeant, his colleagues, friends and family. I don't consider him a hero. He failed to follow the safety rules for all incidents on the railways and paid the price for his misadventure. The guy on the line who caused this incident should be charged with trespassing on the railway and consider manslaughter charges.

If he had done nothing and the man on the track had been killed by the train, the Media would have been all over him like a rash , and possibly the mans family it is natural for others to try and help anyone in distress or danger, some would have just filmed him on their phones and done nothing

Remember that?

Remember that? Of course but that takes time, and you don't always have time sometimes its on the spot decision, the Officer made his decision a brave man IMHO.

We don’t know fully the circumstances of this tragic incident.
It seems the most likely explanation is that man A was in severe emotional distress and at least actively considering taking his own life. The policeman appears to have sought to assist and save the life of Man A knowingly putting himself in danger in that attempt.
IF that is what happened, then the policeman absolutely deserves to be described as a hero - a sometimes over used word but absolutely applicable in those circumstances. Man A is not in any way complicit in the policeman’s death and deserves nothing but the best support to help him hopefully rebuild his life.
