I listened to a cab driver earlier, he was interviewed on GB News. He was a Londoner and had been a cabbie for years. He was asked what he thought about the carnival and his response was not what I expected. He said the carnival weekend is brilliant, he loved it. He said it was a real family day out. He then said, but as soon as it gets dark the idiots come out, that's when the crime & robbery starts which is why shops and houses are boarded up. There you have two very different sides of the same coin. My opinion hasn't changed, it should be banned. I know it wont be. Every year its costs the London Taxpayers a fortune even on the children's day it is not free of some violence arrests were made for possession of weapons, etc Police Officers were injured, thousands of them are drafted in from the London Boroughs to Police it leaving skeleton crews in the Boroughs , they don't want to be there they know what is likely to happen, all leave is cancelled. The same thing has happened year after year it is time to stop it or move it , if they stop it or move that may well cause a violent backlash and accusations of racism as per usual , how many more murders and serious injuries does it take for the Government to do something. Armed Officers had to be sent into the crowd this year, , Officers working on the Carnival perimeter responded quickly to information suggesting a group was in possession of a firearm, the group were intercepted, a firearm seized and a man arrested in connection with it I dread to think what may happen if a serious incident happens in another part of London for example a terrorist attack and Officers at the Carnival are taken away from the Carnival to deal with it I'd have thought that the carnival itself would be a major terrorist target.
A suicide bomber would wreak absolute devastation in a crowd that dense.
One day it will happen and the usual eejits will complain that the "Racist" police didn't do enough to prevent it.

I agree any large gathering is a potential target for terrorists , sporting events, Easter Parade, the security for the London Olympics was very high, the late Queens Funeral, the Kings Coronation, the IRA attacked mounting of the Guards , Manchester Arena

And there is essentially no security at Notting Hill.

And there is essentially no security at Notting Hill. They do have Stewards, and thousands of Police are drafted in for the weekend however many of them are kept in reserve near the carnival route especially the Shield Serials to avoid confrontation, going into the crowd to make arrest is not for the fainted hearted, and liable to bring about an aversion often violent reaction from some. They have snatch squads get in fast get their target and back out facing the crown. No matter what they do they are all racists even the none white officers to some of the throng

Yes, but that's all reactive: There is no searching of people entering the carnival footprint nor is there any control over who enters.
It would be extremely easy to carry a bomb into the carnival with virtually zero chance of the bomber being challenged.

I believe the Police had Metal Detectors on the edges of the area and probably at the Tube Stations and maybe hand held metal detectors with some officers among the revellers, but knives or other weapons may have been hidden inside the cordon, or gang members actually live in the area. No they have no control of who wants to attend the Carnival they free to enter or leave as they wish
