Has anyone actually been or are you all basing your opinion of the carnival on xenophobic clickbait articles? 200 arrests in a crowd of 2 million is proportionally no worse than Glastonbury or Ascot races.

The police only arrest people if there really is no choice (ie people are ending up in ambulances)
At Ascot, someone might be arrested for arriving without a suitable hat

Sounds like you are talking about US led gansta culture rather than anything Caribbean. Well maybe it is. Look, here’s the thing. The tiny jurassic coast town of Swanage is flooded with people about twelve weekends a year. And i mean there isn’t a hotel room, B&B bed, tent pitch, caravan spot or RV parking space to be had for miles. The streets are filled with drinkers going from venue to venue and the pubs are overflowing. These are the weekends of the two Blues Festivals, the Jazz weekend, the Folk Festival, the Fish Festival… i could go on. I go to one, sometimes two of these a year and for fifteen years straight the only work the police on duty have to do is direct participants to the various lesser known venues and again over the last 15 years paramedics have been called to two road accidents nowhere near the venue, one drowning rescue where some idiot walked up a pitch black road at half past midnight missed his footing and fell in the bloody river that flows through the town. I know because it was ME who fished the idiot out and restored the airway and called tbe paramedics to take him off to check for secondary drowning as there was water in the airway…. I’m ashamed to say much mugging goes on. And i’m one of the muggers. On the Folk Festival gangs of Morris dancers go from pub to pub relieving honest drinkers of their change to ‘donate’ to Prostate Cancer, Diabetes UK etc etc, and on Blues weekends i tramp the streets for the charity Steve Darrington’s supporting, threatening to busk if they don’t pay up. No it’s not on the same scale but that’s not the point. No one goes to these to commit crime. No One. in stark contrast Notting Hill gas an unenviable record

Bearing in mind that Jamaica is one of the most dangerous countries in the world, what is 'Caribbean culture'? Good question , if I recall correctly a few years back the Jamaican Government declared a national emergency due the high unacceptable crime and violence rate, sounds a bit like parts of our major cities here in the UK but with sun not rain 'Caribbean culture' seems to revolve around: violence, fatherless families, ganja, rastafarianism, reggae, so called 'drill' music, and goat curry. Off hand I cant think of anything else we have to thank Caribbean culture for.

Yes, I've been. How many times were you stabbed? I've been too. I'm not a huge Reggae fan so I was a little bored after a couple of hours but I never felt unsafe.

Monte, I think you may find that although cricket is a game popular in some ex colonial countries, it was invented by the English.
