Applies equally to the EU don't you think?

Absolutely brilliant. This is real political comedy - unlike the crap we get now from the BBC which just involves bashing the Tories.

Jim Hacker's party was never mentioned in Yes Minister, because the satire applies equally to the Tories and Labour.

"We wanted to stop people from coming to Britain, that's what Brexit was all about. But now the Europeans are stopping us from going to Europe! That's not fair!"

"We wanted to stop people from coming to Britain, that's what Brexit was all about. " Is it bollocks. We were in a political union which we were exporting less and less to. Our currency was overvalued. We couldn't make free trade agreements of our own. It's economic immigration system was based on nationality not individual capability. There were legal immigrants falling destitute because of flaws in the system. Being able to deport failed economic migrants did nothing to fix the predicament they were in. Convicts including murderers had the legal right to come and live and work here. Re-offending happened. Controlling immigration to make the system work was one of the reasons we voted leave. But it isn't the only one and you should know better by now than to post such tripe. And what's your post got to do with Yes Minister or the EU / EEC anyway?

No.
I started the thread to talk about a clip from Yes Minister relating to the EEC and EU.
Here's another quote:

This is not a Brexit thread. It's a thread about Yes Minister and their observations about the EEC & EU.
The programme is not wrong, is it?

Applies equally to the EU , don't you think? Just bringing your 'word processing' up to European standards, Iggy.

Jim Hacker's party was never mentioned in Yes Minister, because the satire applies equally to the Tories and Labour. I never said that Hacker was a Tory. Duh! Wake up. I'm well aware that this is a general "spoof" of politics. As to whether it's "satire" I think Maggie said it was a documentary. And several other people have said that satire is about speaking "truth to power". And I think that the BBC have tried to justify their current feeble attempts at political humour - which basically spent years attacking the Tories - by saying that it was satire and that didn't involve attacking the Opposition.

I should have said, one of the things I liked about it was that the programme wasn't partisan, it lampooned all of politics. Hence, Jim Hacker's party was irrelevant.

With very few exceptions I don't think politicians make any difference. The Civil Service are the government now and this is what "Yes, Minister" was about. It doesn't matter which party you have in power without a drastic reform in the culture of the civil service. link
There are so many civil servants now who are actively trying to subvert govt policies. Just like in Yes, Minister.
