How come the usual lefties aren't outraged? How come Starmer is doing his usual by saying 'nothing'. If this was a Tory brainchild The media would be having a field day now with Sunak and the Tories, why aren't they demanding Starmer and Labour control their out of control Mayor, a tax on the ordinary people, and Labour are getting away with it, this is by far a hit on the ordinary people than the Tories have ever done.
Maybe the usual lefties (and righties) have already commented - see above and other threads Khan had to do something but this expansion is too harsh and has been very badly managed.

I don't know how Khan can push through his ULEZ, while he himself is exempt, and can drive round in his 'luxury 2020 Range Rover' without having to pay the £12.50 per day charge.
So much for lead by example. how can he possible believe he can get away with it while others have no choice.

Well yes and no. He (or his employer) has done what they intend and bought a low emission vehicle. But this charge is too high, I've seen no promise to recycle the payments in full to scrappage schemes and the new boundary is set way too aggressively - as the adjacent councils keep pointing out. Make it 2 miles inside with warnings on GLC property and it might be better.

I'm struggling to see how charging £12.50 a day is going to improve the air, let's say everyone continues to use the roads and pay the £12.50, why is £12.50 going to make the air any cleaner?

Because few will pay the charge for long, they'll either find alternative low emission transport or alternative jobs or both. Pre 2015 diesels really are shitty in their emissions and London does have an issue. But so does Dartford at that crossing, I'd hope Kent can introduce a London based cars charge there (but they can't)

The more sinister thing for me is that the ULEZ network will track every journey. My vehicles are exempt (for now, although road pricing will apply to all in due course) but since when did I agree to be tracked everywhere that I go? And of course, I didn't. We are sleepwalking into 1984.
How do you figure that? The cameras (like the Congestion Zone cams) are at the boundary to catch cars entering the ULEZ but apart from the perimeter of the old ULEZ not so much where they go inside it which would require a thousand times or more cameras to accomplish serious tracking. Those journeys to Soho will go largely unmonitored - well except by all those door bells, tourist with phones and other CCTV cameras.

Because they are a prelude to "Pay per mile" (already part of Khan's plan - Google it) and how do you imagine that they are going to do that without tracking every movement?
They are on every major junction within the zone, not just on the boundaries. Why do you suppose that is?
Honestly Steve, you need to keep up.

Honestly Steve, you need to keep up. Yes I was stupidly wrong that they are just at the perimeter of the new zone. Not least because of course many are around the perimiter of the previous ULEZ. But they are not on every street are they, far from it. ulez.co.uk/ulez-camera-locations/'You’ll find that the original ULEZ area mirrors the congestion charge zone. This means that you’ll likely find most of the cameras around the parameter of this area. The original ULEZ zone where the majority of cameras can be found in all contacted within the A501 in the north, A1210 in the east, Tower Bridge Road and the A201 in the south, the A3204 and Vauxhall Bridge road, and the A4202 in the east. These roads all connect to create a semi-ring road around the area, meaning that any route that turns off these locations into the ULEZ area will likely have a camera. As well as this, all the significant bridges within the ULEZ area will also have a camera. There are also a few other internal locations to spot drivers making journeys that start and end within the ULEZ area. '

The ULEZ Cameras are not just on the boundaries they are all over the London Boroughs, as you drive into the Zone your vehicle triggers the Camera which automatically checks if your vehicle is complaint or not if not you must pay £12.50, once inside there are even more cameras that track your vehicle right across London, there are other Cameras that monitor the Congestion Charge in central London, you cannot hide from them, then of course there are also ANPR Cameras.

Yep I already accepted that I got that wrong but stupidly didn't correct my post - will do There's not enough though for what most would consider tracking

At the present time in London there are 1,775 ULEZ Cameras in place, Khan's plan is to have 2,750 ULEZ Cameras in place which means no vehicle will be able to drive anywhere in London without being filmed and checked to confirm if that vehicle is ULEZ compliant or not

So yes you'll get spotted but tracked?

I live in London so I do know what is what , not only are there Congestion Charge Cameras, and ANPR Cameras, we are filmed 24/7 Council Camaras as well plus of course on prominent buildings , Transport Hubs , car parks , even on public transport we are not only filmed but can be back tracked, how on earth do you think the authorities Police included can track where a vehicle was its direction route if they need to find it, they have been doing so before the ULEZ expansion. As I stated earlier once you enter London your vehicles number plate is checked automatically if your vehicle is not complaint if you don't pay the fee to TFL, the registered keeper gets a Penalty Notice automatically, you are filmed leaving London as well
