Just found Gadow's crowdfunding page. It says that her case is based on Article 10 of the ECHR. According to the linked article, there are indeed protections for academic free speech under that article: www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/Documents/Issues/Opinion/Submissions/Individuals/TAYLOR_VINTERS_LLP.pdfIt's not clear that Gadow comes within its protections, however. The article only extends to the academic's area of expertise. While Gadow is undoubtedly an expert in criminal law, I very much doubt that she is an expert on gender identity. There doesn't appear to be any case law to provide guidance (at least none is mentioned on this point in the article). Einy, I'm out of my depth, like most people I don't know anything about law, criminal or otherwise. But I'm confident Dr Gadow does, which is why she is taking this action. I suppose it will depend on what she said exactly. If she said that transgender women aren't women, I should think that would be outside her area of expertise as a criminal law academic, and that a court would find that Article 10's protections don't extend to her remarks. But it's not clear what she said.

Unfortunately, Dr Gadow avoided describing the 'forum' in which the contested remarks were published. I would say, though, if her allegations regarding the 'age inappropriate relationship' marking scheme allegedly imposed are true, then I doubt it would be particularly relevant where she expressed dissent.
I find it strange that an EDI (had to look it up) department might have any input to a criminal law course, let alone becoming involved in its marking scheme. The interview, of course, only provides limited information and there may be other issues in play.

My only experience of the OU was more than 20 years ago, when I taught a couple of summers at their residential school "The 19th Century English Novel and it's Influence"), but I'm sure they still ask prospective staff to sign up (as a term of their contract) to a "Values Statement".
Indeed, I'd be very surprised if they didn't.
Most organisations have such a statement. (Our current project does. You want to work for us, you agree to abide by our values. So far, we've got about a hundred people on the payroll - I'd have to ask, but I think one or two prospects have chosen not to, along the way.)
From that point onward, any dispute between a staff member and their employer becomes a simple HR issue.

If the lady is providing a faithful account of the issue, then it strikes me as closer to shades of Galileo's difficulties than a 'simple HR issue'.

There is no academic qualification that qualifies the opinion as fact that a biological man dressed in a skirt equates to a woman .

This lady has been interviewed by GB News, she makes the point that her Grandfather was sentenced to death by the Nazis for free speech crimes at his University. Our Universities have become paradoxical to education. They are more akin to Madrasas where extreme fundamentalists brainwash their students with political ideology and dress it up as education. "Minor attraction" (paedophilia) 'was considered another kind of sexuality, and students on their law module were given a task (scenario) between an adult and a minor and could only gain marks if they described the adult/minor relationship as one of boyfriend & girlfriend, but would lose marks if they in anyway suggested child sexual grooming might be going on'. This is how extreme sexualised ideology has become in the West today, paedophilia is seen in academic literature pumped out by these Madrasas as 'norm'. No wonder Western ideals and values are rapidly eroding.

Indeed. Imo there are too types of gender diversity supporters that deny it will lead directly or indirectly to the sexualisation of children ( ie vulnerable to paedophiles). The ones too naive or stupid to realise it and the ones who welcome it .

'Menstruation is not just a women's issue' say Lib Dem trans rights activists ahead of party conference vote Members asked to agree periods 'also affect some trans and non-binary people'

First GB News, now Talk TV. Funny how it's only the amateur channels giving this complainant benefit of the doubt and an unchallenged platform - while more professional outlets presubly realise that, until BOTH sides can be heard, there's simply no story. (On that note - Off to Spain, where my own TV grilling awaits. See you next week..)
