On the bright side, that's just freed up five hotel rooms. Whatever the circumstances Red that’s not good. Actually, I believe it's six hotel rooms that have been freed up, not five.

According to the Guardian this was one of 'dozens' of boats that attempted the crossing last night.
Looks like the smugglers may have opted for the Blitzkrieg strategy in order to overwhelm the French, hence the alleged appeal to the UK for assistance.
PS it seems migrants rescued by the RNLI were brought to Dover, not returned to France.
In which case the RNLI is guilty of facilitating illegal immigration and should be prosecuted.

Four 'people smugglers' are charged with manslaughter after at least six UK-bound migrants drowned in the English Channel Defendants were remanded in custody until criminal trial could be organised Four alleged people smugglers have been charged with manslaughter after at least six UK-bound migrants drowned in the English Channel, it has emerged. The defendants are said to have been involved in the disaster last Saturday morning which saw a punctured dinghy overturn in the sea, flinging some 60 people overboard, close to Sangatte, in northern France. The accused have not yet been identified by name, but are described as two Iraqis, both aged 43, and two men from Sudan, aged 29 and 17. They were indicted for ‘manslaughter’, ‘participation in a criminal association’, and ‘causing unintentional injuries.’ Paris prosecutors on Wednesday evening said that the alleged smugglers were being remanded in custody until a criminal trial could be organised. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12414881/People-smugglers-manslaughter-drowning-English-Channel.html

We are responsible for dim-witted criminals in France how? IMO they are not dim they know what they are doing, they are callous and ruthless they overload the dinghy's to maximise their profit and point them to Dover, they don't care if they get there or not or if any or all of them drown

A human being has drowned in the Channel this morning. Rescue boats from both France and the UK and French helicopters attended and many lives were saved. no, dappy. What REALLY took place was Lots of human beings chose to chance their arm at doing something unbelievably stupid, when they were perfectly entitled to make their case to the French authorities, or indeed any of the authorities in any of the countries through which they chose to pass that they had the right to seek refuge in the country they now stood in But instead of doing that these people chose to risk their lives to invade our country. And their gamble failed. And lots of French people stood round and did sod all knowing tbe english would come and take them to England. We need to ram home the fact that if you pull this stunt you die. Then see how many continue this reckless venture and how many choose life.

Each one that leaves France and gets to the UK even if rescued in mid channel, is one less problem for France that is why they will not stop them
