Staff at a leading university have been encouraged to ditch the phrases 'black sheep', 'blackball' or 'Indian summer'. Academics at the University of Surrey have been handed examples of 'non-inclusive words and phrases to be aware of'. These include swapping the phrase 'black sheep' for 'renegade', and to use 'ostracise' instead of 'blackball', to avoid causing offence. The guidance, created by 'Mental Health First Aid England', reads... ...'This guide aims to empower you to have supportive, inclusive conversations about race. link
Why do supposedly educated people allow themselves to be browbeaten by these left wing woke virtue signalling idiots? It appears the students are being taught good English is that not the point of a scholastic education. Much better than the gutter language of the deputy chair of the Conservative party. How are the phrases “ Black sheep, blackball and Indian Summer “ bad English? Had you attempted to read the OP, you might have gleaned that the objection to them being used was because they were ‘ non inclusive ‘and might cause offence .

Oh, I understood that completely but my point is that there are better words available.

Or the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party? I think there is enough evidence to show that she was right. Anderson is playing on the fears of a very select few of the nations worse people, he and they know exactly what they are doing. First - close the safe and legal routes for asylum seekers. Second - engineer a backlog of asylum claims. Third - use expensive ways to house that have been forced to use people smugglers to get here. Fourth - feed the right wing press with information regarding the cost. Sixth - blame the opposing. Seventh - blame the lawyers. Eighth - blame the education system. Ninth - divide the population. Tenth - tell the right wing press 'we are on the side of the people, xyz are not'. This current government is in no fit state to, and incapable of concocting a sequential system of events like that, never mind capable of actually pulling it off. Nice conspiracy though.

Why, then is the backlog so high?

I can't say this story is of undue concern to me in truth.
But out of interest for all those driven into a frenzy of outrage
What difference does it make to your lives if some people in a workplace you don't work at and are unlikely to visit are encouraged to say "ostracise" instead of "black ball" - a phrase they probably weren't intending to use much if at all this or any other year anyway. There seems more important things to worry about tbh..

Why, then is the backlog so high? Because the performance of every government department is shit - have you tried contacting HMRC lately?

Most countries are socially conservative naturally used to the status quo and can operate within it.
The same in Islamic countries are mostly socially conservative yet see that through the overlay of Islam of course their military elite often do not like that, as in Egypt and Pakistan and stop the Muslim brotherhood or thier equivalents getting to power.
The Left try and grab the progressive space to claim they are the moral and logical ones to lead. Yet Britain is a complex political entity with a long political history. So the electorate don't take things at face value they largely analyse a number of factors before voting.

I have no idea why don't you tell us, you normally do. Why, then, are you using words you do not understand? The question was why don't you tell us what populist is as you know? but you soon backtracked on that one.

They were not trying to improve the students English. You didn’t have a point .
