Exactly. I can't see them getting planning permission for a dog kennel on that site, after their behaviour.

An insurance job? Don’t see it myself - insurers are not stupid and know the risks of a derelict isolated property from the local yobs even assuming the owners are clean. Hard to see insurance being placed without very strict conditions which presumably weren’t complied with. Pay out feels unlikely. Maybe for the value of cleared land - but quick Look on Google maps suggests it’s in the middle of nowhere right next door to some sort of mine/power station. Hardly prime building land at first glance. Authorities will know who the owners are and from there whether they feel suspicious. Perhaps there is some other explanation there or just vandals? Maybe you're naturally naive, I don't know. Marstons sold the pub because like many pubs these days it wasn't making money. The new buyer couldn't alter or demolish it because it's listed. So there's a mystery fire. According to locals the fire was immediately intense and apparently the entrance to the car park was blocked by a load of rubble or dirt of some description that mysteriously appeared on the same night as the fire which successfully stopped fire appliances getting in. Coincidence? Torching loss making businesses is nothing new. According to the media it may not be listed , one stated that an application to list the pub was submitted a week before the fire, Police use sniffer dog after the fire which indicated accelerants were present.

Just read this in the media The owner of the Crooked House pub which burnt to the ground has been revealed as glamorous businesswoman Carly Taylor. She bought the 18th Century ale house in Dudley, West Midlands, from brewery Marston’s last month, as police confirmed they are now treating the fire as arson. Mrs Taylor, 34, is married to the plant hire boss, Adam Taylor, who is a shareholder and former director of Himley Environmental Ltd, which runs a landfill site next to the pub. A source told MailOnline the purchase was ‘all about access’ and followed disagreements between the firm and Marston’s over an access road to the pub which they shared. It goes on the state the Local Council only permitted for the upper part of the pub to be demolished to make it safe. I believe you are correct, there does seem to be confusion over the listed, or not, status of the building. However, Andy Street the Mayor seems quite angry about it and wants the pub rebuilt, and there seems to be quite a lot of support for that.

Andy Street, like most politicians, is very good at reading the public mood and making pronouncements on things he will not be responsible for delivering.
I very much doubt the ex-pub will be rebuilt - sadly.

Exactly. I can't see them getting planning permission for a dog kennel on that site, after their behaviour. There are limits to what they can do, but it seems the owner doesn't want to build there, they just wanted it gone.

Delighted to report that two more people, thought to be the owners of the company that bought the pub, have been arrested in connection with the fire. Long way off establishing any guilt and even further off proving it but a step forward perhaps.
