Four Greenpeace protesters have been arrested after climbing on to the roof of Rishi Sunak’s family home for five hours in protest at his oil drilling expansion. The eco activists released a picture of themselves on top of the £2 million Grade II listed mansion in North Yorkshire just after 8am on Thursday. Four activists reached the roof using ladders and ropes, and unfurled 200 square metres of black cloth to cover one whole side of the mansion. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/08/03/greenpeace-protester-rishi-sunak-home-roof-oil-drilling/What a cock up, the red faced police will have some questions to answer.

As the PM is on holiday it is very unlikely that any Police Officers were mounting security on his home in his constituency, even when he is there just a small detail of Close Protection Officers two or three at most IMHO, unlike when he is in No 10 or on visits around the UK or overseas they would be all over him like a rash

It is irrelevant whether the prime minister was at home or not, what if these demonstrators were Russian or Chinese spies planting listening equipment, or Muslims planting a bomb. I find it incredible that the police or security services did not have the property under surveillance. But I'll tell you this, it will be in future. From now on a sparrow wont get within 100 yards of that house.

Yes I agree he is a softer target when he is at his home in Yorkshire which is probably not that often , but like No10 there are probably cameras and other sophisticated security devices installed to monitor the house 24/7 and possibly random patrols by the Police, if there are one two Uniformed Officers stationed there 24/7 I have no idea

The demonstrators approached the property shortly before 6am this morning and said they were amazed they were able to walk right up to the property unchallenged erect ladders and climb onto the roof. After a couple of hours when no one appeared they got bored and phoned the police themselves. This is a massive and embarrassing breach of security.

There they are sitting on the roof of the prime minister’s home and no one gives a flying one. Stunning. Who wants to bet the security hardware supply contract went to that dodgy outfit his wife runs …

Indeed, I wondered what they must have thought when they got on the roof and had to call the police themselves lol. It's a pity TV cameras got there and gave them publicity.

I would have just taken the ladders away and left them up there - Sunak is in California on holiday so no threat to him.

They had their own cameraman with them, in case TV didn't turn up I suppose. He filmed them walking down a lane and climbing through a hedge with ropes and ladders, they walked up to the front of the house sorted their kit out erected their ladders and up they went. I don't know whether this footage has been shown on BBC/ITV, I would have thought so, but it has been shown on GB News.

Yes it’s fair enough that if he was in the place the protestors would (or bloody well should) have been met by police or worse equipped with firepower. The issue is they weren’t when he wasn’t. Which as Red has indicated MIGHT mean a hostile foreign power might have gained access to bug the place or a bunch of more extreme nutters might have gained access to bomb it. Of course what we don’t know is whether some spook watching his HDTV link and swearing profusely aware of the whole thing but unable to act for fear of giving his kit away … said thank f*** for that when they rang the plod themselves. We will never know, of course
