I can honestly say that I have never ever set foot in a Wilko's store - I wouldn't have the first idea what they sold. Perhaps that was their problem. A lot of the cups, mugs, plates, glasses, some of the cookware, all of the current paintbrushes and most of the replacement light fittings in JoG towers came from there as did all the USB sticks computrr keyboards and computer paper. In short they had a store in Newport i could park fifty yards from and their DIY and houseware was about half the price of what looked to be the exact same stuff in B&Q and Sainsburys and Currys. So they got my money In Newport they never recovered from the senseless curtailment of ‘non essential retail’ imposed by the lefty shithead twatford.

Predictable, Wilko were promoted during lock-down as the only shop open to buy normal bits and pieces like light bulbs or kettles. Wilko in Stourbridge were operating a policy of one person in, one person out. I went shopping there with my wife and was told we could not go in together. She had to go in while I waited outside. I think I was discriminated against for being married! Not one of their better decisions.

When there is nothing in England left but 'charity' shops, casinos and Turkish 'barbers', somebody needs to remember to turn off the lights - though it's quite likely the lights will just turn off anyway

Wilko had become the shop you'd expect to see, if the a certain China adoring member of this forum opened up a DIY shop.
Unfortunately the cheap tat formula failed.

Wilko brand ‘bought by The Range in £5,000,000 deal’ - linkThe move, which is said to be announced by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) later today, means the brand will not disappear from the high street but instead be seen in The Range’s stores. It comes just a few days after Poundland owner Pepco said it will buy up to 71 Wilko stores, following a series of failed deals, it’s been announced. Pepco has announced the ex-Wilko branches will be rebranded as Poundland stores, and hope to reopen the closed branches by the end of 2023.
