I have two old mates who are living in eastern Europe, they have been there for years and years ago I told them they were mad for moving to eastern Europe. But judging from the map in the OP, perhaps they weren't so mad after all.
When I say two old mates moved to eastern Europe, I don't mean they are living together. Pete (ex WO2) and his family moved to southern Poland, Scouse (ex Sgt) and his wife moved to Bulgaria.

That map talks of the robbery rate in europe , not the overall crime rate. Tell me though , how do you reach your counclusion that poverty doesnt drive crime using albania as an example?
Albania is one of the poorest regions in europe so why would it also have the lowest robbery rate in europe - does poverty only drive certain specific crimes?. Its not my link , but my explanation would be despite albania being one of the historically poorer countires , from reports im reading poverty is starting to decrease , hence potentially why the robbery rate is low.
perhaps they have learned its easier to go to englandshire and scam the locals , rather than rob a bank?

She said the people were lovely and friendly , i was expecting clapped out communist style buildings , but it looked more like the czech republic , beautifull buildings and the weather was fantastic.
The only thing she said was she felt a bit intimidated with soldiers everywhere , which is understandable with the situation in ukraine , and of course there were loads of ukrainian migrants.
Totally agree with you. You do wonder why the poles would leave such a beautifull country to come to scotland and england , ut if the countires economy is growing so rapidly , i would imagine that will soon be a thing of the past.

Sadly we've lost touch with Pete, as far as we know he is still in Poland, south of Krakow somewhere. But Scouse absolutely loves it in Bulgaria, we were good mates in the army, and we have met up twice which is hardly regular, but they love it Bulgaria and have no plans to move west. Cant say I blame them.

"Scotland has more immigration as a percentage of the scottish popualtion than england " That's a big surprise, got a link for it? "Generally poverty is regarded as driving crime , not ethnicity." That being the case, you'd expect crime rates in relatively poor mono-ethnic Eastern European countries to be higher than in much more prosperous multi-ethnic Western Europe. But strangely enough, the inverse is true, how to explain eh? scotland native population , and i stress native as in scottish born , not uk or other , is around 83 % according to this article.
But what is the equivalent figure for England?. The internal migration data for the UK shows that flows into Scotland are not any different from the average for England so the the percentage of native born in Engalnd is going to be very similar to that of Scotland. That combined with the greater non-UK immigration into England is going to give England a higher proportion of immigrants than Scotland.

As the eastern european countires become richer , we may very well see the flow of migration turn opposite to what we have .
The uk is a total mess , major issues across western europe , and the world looks to be slowly turning away from north american western europe dominated. You can see why people are looking to live in more exotic places that perhaps were once dismissed.

For some reason , your countries statisticians always seem to want to couch data with other nations like with wales , or as part of the uk as a whole. you can see why so many english have such problems with confusing england and britian.

I wasn't even slightly concerned about being posted or attached to any unit in any far flung place, the more remote the better and I loved it, sadly troops don't get that today. But once I left, there was never a question of where I'd live. There's no place like home.

Unlike scotland . So its easy for statisticians and government to come to figures showing who exactly is non scots born .
Its almost like your whole political elite are driven to erase england from records for some reason. How strange.

Eastern Europe has been a favourite holiday destination for Europeans for years. Beautiful scenery, good value for money and very few Brits to disturb the peace. Please follow your prejudices and dislike of Europe and stay away.

Scotland has more immigration as a percentage of the scottish popualtion than england , yet we have less robberies according to your own link. Its around 20 % of scotland are non scottish birth certificate holders , and its less than that for england and wales , are you sure about that? How many foreign-born people live in Scotland?
A total of 477,000 people born outside of the UK made up an estimated 9.0% of Scotland’s population of 5,311,000 in 2017, which is lower than the UK average of 14.4%. Migration Observatory Regional ProfileThe reason crime north of Gretna is so much less than it is South of it is the same one explaining why UK wide no one stole anything in the 1930’s. No one north of Gretna has anything worth nicking
