I have read that EVs are obvioulsy better for non-polluting fuel yet tend to produce more particle pollution from working parts. Might be due to the heavy batteries requiring stronger brakes. It's mainly from the tyres - EV's are heavier than their equivalent ICE cars so are more wearing on the tyres, thus more particulate pollution. Exactly some Councils are now putting up parking fees

That was pretty conclusive. Also, this point at the end which some people still can't fathom. As most particulates (PM10/PM2.5) come from tyres and brakes swapping from ICE to EV is not going to solve that - and as EV's are heavier than equivalent ICE cars it can make them worse. That is why the London Undergound (electrically powered) has worse air quality than at street level -

Nope. You should have glanced at Wap's link. Regenerative braking means that the mechanical brakes are hardly used. Many have gone back to drum brakes because they are sufficient and they are a sealed system so the dust is not released. Pads last 4 times longer and disks twice as long as ICE vehicles. Tyre degradation is slightly higher with lifespans dropping 5k off the 35k taxis and vans get with petrol or diesel cars. Plus nothing coming out of the exhaust. EV's are far less polluting for our city centres.

This paper explains the particular situations of the London Underground (and refers to studies of similar subway systems):
It's also worth nothing that all except Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines have regenerative braking...

I have one poster telling me that EV's dont create PM due to regenerative braking and another saying that trains do create PM even though they have regenerative braking..
The fact is that EV's produce more PM pollution that equivalent ICE cars simply due to physics.

It is a bit like the ending of Padmavaat where all the girls top themselves. Not sure why and it is a terrible way to treat Deepika Padukone, but that is the women folk for you.
But Khan is a Labour party traditionalist and clearly rather enjoys going down in glorious defeat
