Remember that these things happen the next time you start calling for the reintroduction of the death penalty.

the daft thing is that should compensation be awarded then a large slice of that will be taken by the Prisons Department of the Home Office to pay for 17 years room and board.

That is daft. Give him £2m and no slice taken out of it. That should help him back on his feet, buy a house, a car and get some of his life back.

the daft thing is that should compensation be awarded then a large slice of that will be taken by the Prisons Department of the Home Office to pay for 17 years room and board. 25% apparently. A decision ratified by the house of lords. Those opposed make the claim the innocent should not be penalised in this way because the guilty are not required to pay for their board and lodging But the guilty are not given one million pounds to compensate them for their incarceration. And some twat let the BBC put the point the guilty are not charged fir their board and lodging without stating tbis bleeding obvious point A small fact for those who say ‘remember this next time you want someone hung’ The asshole who caused the imprisonment of the birmingham six by using a sodium hydroxide solution ten times the required strength also caused the charging of a lorry driver as the mad axe murderer in a case of the M1 slaughterer. The lorry driver was found in possession of a blood soaked shirt whose blood group was a match to the rare blood type of the murder victim. A one in 10,000 chance This was when blood groups were king and DNA had not yet been sequenced His defence was that he injured himself securing a load The defence briefs utterly failed to test the suspects blood group. But also failed to have a police doctor examine him for signs of injury When during an appeal he was finally tested he was found to be of the same blood group as the victim, and was in fact a very distant relative. Case dismissed at appeal But the twats responsible were not. Thats the problem. Hang them for criminal incompetence …

The law works for the powerful and money, plebs still get penalised, why haven’t the postmasters wrongly accused all been compensated, why is Archer still in the lords, why did Blair never face at the very least a totally independent enquiry?

If we stopped them earning money from the state doing that and made them reliant upon the rather large sums handed out by so called ‘refugee charities’ instead, and reversed the advertising regulations that allowed them to chase ambulances, we might find some lawyers forced to take cases like this that actually matter.

I read about this yesterday, imagine being banged up for 17 years knowing you were innocent, what would that do to someone's mental health, and how does a government compensate for 17 years worth of life. Yes I agree, very substantial compensation should be in the pipeline.

No amount of money will give him those lost years. Maybe not, but any compensation should be sufficient to ensure he has a comfortable lifestyle for the rest of his life.
