Rishi Sunak has criticised the EU for a "regrettable choice of words" after it appeared to endorse the Argentine name for the Falkland Islands. The prime minister's official spokesman said his view was it would have been "entirely unacceptable for the EU to question the Falkland Islanders' right to decide their own future". It is very strange, Spain would be suspect as we hold Gibraltar yet we could go to Morrocco and support a UN claim for Spain to release their two ports on the African continent. That would really annoy them.
Remember in Blair's tenure he talked about joint ownership of Gibraltar and then two hundred Morroccan soldier entered Ceuta and upset the Spanish. Joint ownership of Gibraltar was not mentioned again.

Isn’t it a bit of a storm in a teacup?
The EU isn’t allocating or giving the Falklands/Ilas Malvinas to Argentina. Everybody appears to agree that citizens have the right to determine which country they wish to ally with/ belong to. A right that might one day be given to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, without bribing them with empty promises…

Everybody appears to agree that citizens have the right to determine which country they wish to ally with/ belong to. The EU didn't say Las Malvinas by mistake, they said it because of Brexit. As was clearly shown when Foreign Secretary James Cleverly asked Josep Borrell who is described as the EU's 'top diplomat', why the EU refferd to The Falklands as Malvinas, and was ignored. The EU said if the UK were in the EU we could talk. Christ almighty, is this what the EU call professional diplomacy? Actually, it probably is. |

I think the 4000 Falkland islanders, 99.8% of whom in 2013 voted for the Falkland Islands to remain a British territory, are probably worrying about the prospect of a Labour government. |

And very little of that area is English speaking, most of it is Hispanophone, Lusophone with a little Néerlandophone and Anglophone influenced patois thrown in. Westminster throwing a hissyfit isn’t going to butter many parsnips (or turnips from the Tory larder)… |

In 1965, at the 20th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Fourth Committee determined that, in all languages other than Spanish, all UN documentation would designate the territory as the Falkland Islands. |
