A Dorset anecdote... My son applied to join the Dorset Constabulary. He was told that all places for white entrants had been taken and was invited to reapply in two years time. Because he was white he didn't even get an interview. At the time it had been several months since I visited Dorset, I naturally assumed that sleepy English shire had suddenly turned into a hotbed of racial tension. Hardly - the only black and brown faces you see around here work in the care homes.. Precisely. |

Hardly - the only black and brown faces you see around here work in the care homes.. Are we to infer from that, that the only White faces are those of the inmates? It would seem so, as the largest age group appears to be the 70-75 — though they do seem to rapidly drop off the twig after... they dont call it God's waiting room for nothing...  |
