Yes but the outer boroughs are where most voters actually live. more to the point, i think, having worked in one for some time, the outer boroughs are where public transport is at its worst. The Surbiton suburbs are a splendid example, i had the distinctly less than pleasurable task of staying in a B&B while working on an Air Traffic Control system for Siemens at Chessington. Chessington is near enough to central London to enjoy the traffic congestion but too far out to have any underground servivecand the overground as they started calling it was pitiful. Having lived and worked there albeit as a commuter i’m not remotely surprised the desire to put saddo in a midsummer wicker man is high

How many years ago did you spend time in London, JoG? I ask because outer London public transport has improved considerably over the years. The numbers of buses, metros, trains, trams, etc, have all noticeably increased. Though I'd credit TfL, rather than the mayor, he appears to say and do what others tell him will be good. Superloop will circle the entire capital and connect key town centres, stations and transport hubs in outer London...

Yep and that's the thing. If I lived further in to London I wouldn't bother with a car - there'd be no need. But where I live there is no tube, no tram and they've even cut the local bus routes. If you're a key worker and have to travel off-peak, at weekends or on public holidays there is often no public transport at all. And there's Saddo Khant wanting to punish people for not using the public transport that doesn't exist.

I think that Khan may struggle to stay in place due to his incompetence and trying to force ULEZ on all London Boroughs , but at the end of the day Labour controls the majority of the Boroughs If only we could clear out those useless Hackney councillors who guarantee their seats with blanket support for unreasoning Gaia types… On their own they are harmless lunatics. The glue that holds this insane asylum together is people vindictively making common cause with lunatics in order to 'stick it' to their political enemies. The bus will careen over the cliff because people are allowing lunatics to drive in order to 'win an argument' that has its roots in a playground squabble. It's all become rather dysfunctional.

i freely admit a lot of it was before Khan’s time. Some of it was under Red Ken, some under Boris. My last foray was probably for periods of a couple of months 2014-2017. If you ever signed up to any of the TfL email alerts warning you of disruption / weekend maintenance you have me to thank for getting them, but the idiots at TfL for choosing you to receive them. I understand the company responsible lost the contract shortly after i left it to work on automotive accessory production in Abergavenny. My cousin has lived in a converted flat in Surbiton since the late 90s and still does.

Not exactly outer London though is it?. The furthest East it goes is the Royal docks when outer London extends almost to the M25 and Dartford Tunnel. The Royal Docks are in Newham - further East than that you have Barking and Dagenham and then Havering.

And there's Saddo Khant wanting to punish people for not using the public transport that doesn't exist. The last Labour government, a government in which Khan was a transport minister, encouraged people to buy diesel. Now those people are punishing them for it. It's hardly surprising the public are pissed.

The last Labour government, a government in which Khan was a transport minister, encouraged people to buy diesel. Now those people are punishing them for it. It's hardly surprising the public are pissed. It was an international idea that petrol was causing vast amounts of CO2 — something diesel didn’t do, and diesel gave more mpg thus saving fuel consumption. Then the research showed NOX and particulates were the principal danger — something that unblued diesel belched out. All mainstream political parties found themselves having to make the switch…

I like whelks, but they’re difficult to find in London. But it’s only the outer boroughs that seem to be complaining about Ulez, so I don’t think it’ll bring that many votes. Campaign against the blanket 20mph speed limits on major roads, and the ridiculous road closures, and I reckon the Tories could have the edge, even though the majority of London is Labour… You know where I live there is a main road that runs through the town and no ring-road, hence quite busy. I'm not on this main road but far enough away that you could hear the traffic in the garden. Now they have made it 20mph all the way through the town I can no longer hear any traffic. 10mph makes all the difference. It's not the noise of the engines, but the air the cars cut through. At 20mph I think you have almost perfect laminar flow. The turbulence is the noise generator. So I'm really happy with it. It is so peaceful you can hear all the birds and nothing else.

Many of the real Cockney's have gone to Kent Doubt it — Essex is nearer and doesn’t require crossing the Thames. Kent was for holidays hop picking… I have friends that live in Kent and lots of East Enders and Londoners have moved there, having sold up bought cheaper housing in Kent and commute into London for work, its the same right across London people are getting out , it is safer than living in London and a better quality of life.
