It was all one dimensional — the majority of English dislike foreigners living here…. Not quite, we don't mind a few yet we have been forced to accept millions without any vote. That’s a weak excuse for those frequent blatant anti-foreigner outcries against Polish plumbers, Romanian fruit pickers, East European dentists, etc — all of who got their employment because the jobs weren’t being filled by people from the UK. Besides, how many other things other than the EEC/EU and voting reform have you been able to have a direct vote on without complaining you’ve been “disenfranchised”…?

Those jobs were being filled by people from the UK until wages were compressed.
And maybe, just maybe, we should train more plumbers, and more brick layers etc.
School leavers can do the unskilled jobs.
And btw, my dentist is a nice Asian chap (with Indian parents) and he voted leave. Loads of Black, Asian and ethnic minority people think that immigration levels into the UK are unsustainable. Immigration from the EU was out of control.
We live on a small, overpopulated island. An immigration system based on what people can do, is better than an immigration system based on people's passports.
And because the EU does not work, there is not wage parity across it.
They need to either abolish the Euro and free movement, or establish fiscal union. Freedom of movement cannot work without tax, and wage parity as well as currency parity.

In the EEC/EU state owned monopolies were/are allowed, and many continued… Incorrect. “Shall be” is not the same as “are”, and many existing state monopolies continued. Just across the Channel, EDF continued as a nationalised monopoly until 2004. It is still approx 85% state owned. Also, there are three exemptions to Article 101. Firstly, Article 101(3) allows exemption for practices beneficial to consumers. Secondly, the commission exempted 'Agreements of minor importance' (except those fixing sale prices) from Article 101. Thirdly, the commission also introduced a collection of block exemptions for different contract types, which include a list of contract permitted terms and a list of banned terms in these exemptions….

They need to either abolish the Euro and free movement, or establish fiscal union. Freedom of movement cannot work without tax, and wage parity as well as currency parity. Then as now, many people overvalue their worth — eg, tube drivers equating their worth with that of airline pilots. Yes, there are good arguments for training more people for skilled trades and professions, but people cannot be forced into training rather than lazing around or going to uni. Nor can school leavers be force to do unskilled jobs — unless a type of national service is introduced — but many do end up in dead-end employment. I don’t doubt there are loads of “Black, Asian and ethnic minority people think that immigration levels into the UK are unsustainable”. Immigration based on required skills is supposedly being implemented — meanwhile immigration still increases — even though we’ve supposedly regained control of our borders. The UK is no longer a member of the EU, so what you and the UK think is relevant for he EU to operate is pointless — especially as the strike-ridden UK, is on its fifth prime minister of its current dysfunctional and discredited government. So probably better to jettison the nationalist rhetoric and fairy tales, and concentrate on finding workable ways of getting the UK out of the difficulties it’s been misled into voting itself into…

It doesn't work in granny's basement, that's for sure, but out here in the real world of Euroland it works OK.

Privatisation was pioneered by Thatcher, and was a policy admired and adopted by others. In the EEC/EU state owned monopolies were/are allowed, and many continued… And a number of them soon snapped up formerly state-owned bargain assets in the UK put up for sale under privatisation. Like the railways, the power generation industry, water companies etc etc and so on.
It's a great irony that many such assets are back under state ownership and control, just not that of the British state.

They might work a bit better then...

State owned businesses are allowed, just not the kind of state owned monopolies lefties yearn for. Competition, economic Darwinism is mandatory. And a factor in that is lower pay.
Now also consider that Macron is breaking up the monopoly SNCF had.
Privatisation and competition are happening cross the EU.
Market forces are mandatory there.
