Hmmm. I wondered where the £12 trillion came from and it turns out that's the total GDP of the signatory countries. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with a 'trade deal' as far as the UK is concerned.
By the same token didn't the UK have a $17 trillion trade deal with the EU before it flounced out?
Are the hacks and hackettes at the Express really so economically illiterate?

Apologies Vinny, didn't look in the world view forum.

I understand there is another thread on this.
The reality is that it is a good news story, but very much a marginal one. The Government's own figures suggest an impact of less than 0.1% to GDP.
Of perhaps more interest then is the newspaper reporting linked on this thread.
Clearly the newspaper headline is designed to misrepresent the reality to its readers. Or lie in more common parlance.
We have seen this before with the Express and Mail and with stories run on GB News and the Talk one.
The really odd thing is that those media outlets customers dont seem to get angry when they are lied to. It seems they are happy being given a false reality in line with what they would like reality to be rather than being given the actual truth. I find that really weird and honestly don't quite know what society should do about it.
Any thoughts?

The most you can do is to ridicule anyone who unthinkingly parrots such nonsense.

The most you can do is to ridicule anyone who unthinkingly parrots such nonsense. Except that this time it was me, so I'm guessing that you realise that I did it somewhat tongue in cheek. On the point though, it does seem to be a lot about not very much. Kemi Badenoch's interview with Laura Kuensberg yesterday was quite enlightening. Not quite word for word, but the gist of it was: LK: Will this make a difference to people's lives? KB: It will if we use it. LK: But the OBR say it will only gain £1.8Bn after 10 years? KB: We're trying to come up with some alternative figures. You can't actually make this shit up. (Well, actually the Daily Express just did...)

Do you think there is any harm in having a diverse customer base or a diverse supply chain?

I was a little surprised AB when it appeared to you doing the parroting which would have been a little of character.

Do you think there is any harm in having a diverse customer base or a diverse supply chain? No, absolutely not. It just doesn’t appear to have the effect of improving the economy, which the government was hoping it would.

Perhaps the Malaysian and Brunei economies are just not that valuable to a country located on the other side of the world..... This was always about tabloid headlines not substance. The question is - why are so many people (not you Andrew) so content to be lied to so often by the government and their friends in the tabloids?

I guess some of us are willing to reserve judgement until we see how it pans out.

Probably far, far more relevant is the fact that The European Union has just signed a comprehensive co-operation deal with Tunisia, which includes measures to deter migrants from using Tunisia as a place to springboard into Europe.
The Mediterranian country is the closest to Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica, and the EU is Tunisias largest trading partner.
The comprehensive partnership deal includes 100 million Euros to assist Tunisia in combating what was termed as "Irregular migration".
