As far as I'm aware Labour are not planning to scrap the two-child benefit cap, although I have no doubt Starmer would like to. Such a policy would greatly boost Labours popularity in richly multicultural and diverse areas where men have multiple wives and many children. Of course Starmer is a socialist, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. He knows abolishing the cap would cost £1.3 billion, an annual cost that would rise in line with future inevitable benefit increases, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. But I have to ask, if someone cant afford three, four or five children, why should the state pay for them? Surely this is encouraging people to rely on state handouts. Take that argument to its conclusion... Why should my children pay for your pension and healthcare when you retire? There is no "pot", that is how society works, the workers support the retired. Children benefit society, and if you don't encourage people to have them you end up with a top-heavy society and massive economic problems... which is actually happening all over the world already. You should read about what is about to happen to China because of their very low birth rate... which might explain their sudden interest in building up their military and expansionist policies lol.

In a major interview this weekend with The Observer, Keir Starmer has made it clear that there will not be bags loads of money to spend on desirable projects.
The Observer headline goes like this : We cant win power by spending, we need to reform and create wealth.
So instead of pandering to different groups, the Labour leader will be pragmatic, stick to reality, keep within spending limits and go all out for growth. This will upset many on the far Left, including UNITE and the outdated Corbynites who just dont seem to understand basic economics.

So he is going to achieve something no other country on earth has achieved... low tax burden and excellent services. He really is the grown up in the room lol.

Some people obviously believe that the government should decide how many children any couple / parents should have, to be done by discouraging people from having more than 2 children using the Family Allowance or tax system. I always thought we lived in a FREE country where people decided how many children, or what size family people wanted. The "Family Allowance" universal benefit was introduced in the aftermath of the Second World War, and it is not a matter of encouraging people who cannot afford to have children, it is a matter of assisting people with children. AS per usual the Tory supporters know the price of everything, but the value of nothing Face it, there will be people who regard having children like running a puppy farm — ie, probably immoral but a money earner…

Judge not a man who has never been Prime Minister, instead judge him on his record if he does become Prime Minister Meanwhile, let me remind you .......... 1. Inflation 2. Growing the economy 3. National debt falling 4. Falling NHS waiting lists 5. Stop the boats How are Mr Sunaks 5 pledges going ? ( He IS the Prime Minister ) pledges made in January

How do you know I haven't paid for my own pension and healthcare while paying tax all my life? You won’t have paid for all the age benefits that accrue to you — they’re all paid out of the current tax take. If you’ve amassed a pension pot and have health and other insurances, good for you. I’m beginning to be persuaded that winter fuel, free travel, state pension (in its present form), etc, should only be available to those who in need — those who can, should be expected to care for themselves…

There's currently less than two births per woman in the UK (just over 1.6, I think). Limiting child benefit to two shouldn't overburden benefits officers, even if they have to cater for a few exceptions...

I'm a pensioner, but I'm not an old age pensioner, not yet.

You missed his point - the pension is paid out of current tax take, not what you've already paid in.
