It's not nearly as complicated as that, Red. You regularly complain that the UK is being ruled by a minority. Fair enough? You do, don't you? Now, here you are defending that position. I'm just pointing out the contradiction. I have never said this country is ruled by a minority. I have often said the majority in this country have a minority voice, which is perfectly accurate. Yes, it is perfectly accurate. The current government represents only a minority of the people. So, it would be accurate to say that the majority are treated like they are a minority.

When did any government, forgetting China, represent the majority? In 2019 Boris won with 43% of the vote, that's massive. You think the majority would be better represented under PR?

Einy, every EU state uses some form of PR which is usually a disaster for democracy, the Dutch government is a good example. The UK is the only country in Europe to use FPTP. The UK is also the only country to leave the EU, coincidence? Fine. The UK is the only country that can be ruled by the minority. Stop moaning about it. not so - look at holland.

Even Blair in 1997 only got 43.2% of the vote. The Tories got an even bigger percentage of the vote and a bigger mandate as there was also the referendum vote behind them.

The Dutch government is on the brink of collapse over plans to restrict migration. Mark Rutte, the prime minister, wants to limit the ability of asylum seekers to bring their families to the Netherlands but his plans have infuriated two of the four parties in the ruling coalition of conservatives and liberals. Talks on Friday to salvage the government failed to resolve the impasse after the plan was rejected by important members of Mr Rutte’s cabinet on Wednesday and Thursday. Local media has reported that Mr Rutte, the longest-serving prime minister in Dutch history, is willing to let the government fall if an agreement is not reached. “We are in a process, in the cabinet, to reach an agreement on migration. That is a step-by-step process. And tonight was a step,” Mr Rutte told reporters after talks ended in failure at 1.45am on Friday morning. ‘He will blow up the cabinet’ “If Rutte does not withdraw his demand, he will blow up the cabinet,” one liberal cabinet minister told the De Telegraaf newspaper. The row has exposed deep divisions between the liberal D66 and centrist Christian Union, which oppose the crackdown and Mr Rutte’s VVD and the Christian Democrats. Mr Rutte has been accused of “pissing off” his deputy Sigrid Kaag, the D66 leader, after trying to push through the plan in the face of liberal opposition in the coalition, which is the fourth he has led. linkThe article states that Rutte was trying to head off the Dutch farmers' protest party with this aim. Rutte trying to curry favour with the EU calling for plans for compulsory farm buyouts to meet EU climate targets. The technocrats in Brussels won't be happy with his resignation.

Cheers, Red. That means a lot coming from someone who can't see the glaring contradiction in his position. Einy, ffs man (assumption) you know how our electoral system works, the only reason you and the EU are pissed off with it is because FPTP provided an escape from the EU, an escape that any state with PR could never have which is why the EU love PR. It seems to escape you that the binary referendum was the purest form of proportional representation, Red. As for the Dutch, hopefully the Dutch farmers will start to get some sense over the econuts.

Will the BBB run and offer an EU referendum?
That might swing it.

Caroline van der Plas, the leader of the Dutch farmers party, hinted at ambitions of becoming prime minister - REMKO DE WAAL/AFP
The Dutch farmer’s party is ready to fight a general election, its leader said after the Netherlands’ government fell amid divisions over migration.
The campaign comes after The Farmers-Citizen Movement’s (BBB) landslide victory in March’s regional elections, which were dominated by tractor protests against green legislation.
“The banners and flags are still in the shed,” Caroline van der Plas said after Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s ruling coalition collapsed on Friday night.
Asked if she harboured ambitions of becoming Prime Minister, the farmer’s daughter and former journalist said: “If it comes, it comes.”
Ms van der Plas posted a picture of herself smiling on an outdoor terrace on social media, along with the caption “How did you look when the cabinet fell?”.

It's politics, not pornhub. Caroline van der Plas has as much right as anyone to stand for office. It's not her looks that matter, but her ideas.
