A man has handcuffed himself to the gates of Buckingham Palace and threatened to harm himself. Police said the man, believed to be in his 30s, approached the gates at around 5.23pm. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers were trying to speak to the man to "bring the situation to a swift conclusion to ensure his safety and welfare". What's to negotiate? Why don't they just cut the cuffs off him, throw him to the deck handcuff him with a good dose of CS and throw him in a van, job done. |

This is the main gates of Buck House, this is happening in front of thousands of tourists who are photographing and filming the minority appeasing police who are frightened to go anywhere near an unarmed idiot. Is it any wonder the Met are seen as a woke laughing stock. Most people aren't looking through the same blinkers as you are and will see the police acting with compassion towards a mentally ill member of the public. Any American tourists watching the drama will be impressed that the police didn't just shoot him. |

This is mad, apparently the police have been 'negotiating' with him for about two hours and the police are pushing tourists back! Why the hell don't they just taser him and cart him off, end of incident.

Whether he's sectioned or not is neither here nor there, that is to be established later. Right now he should obviously be arrested slapped in handcuffs thrown in a van and carted off. |

If all else fails the Police will probably Spray him , if he is high on drugs that may have little effect, the only other option is Taser him but IMHO not in front of a load of Tourists if they can help it

The 80-year-old said he was Tasered, held to the ground and arrested by officers who told him they were looking for a suspect.
The Metropolitan Police has apologised and referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The IOPC has since instructed the Met to conduct the investigation, but said if the complainant was unhappy with the outcome he would have the right of review.

Red ,Monte is correct and if this person has mental health problems and it looks like he has the police are doing the right thing.
I’ve worked with mentally ill people and the truth is in the overwhelming majority of cases they are at more risk from the general public than the reverse.
