Once again you don’t know and I don’t know the primary reason why the account was closed.
Farage could allow us to know but he refuses too.
I have no view on the future of the chair of Nat West. Until this evening I had never heard of her.

As I said Red on the very first page of this thread, IF Farage’s bank accounts were cancelled because of his political beliefs, that would be outrageous. I didn’t spell it out but I will now if it helps, that would apply not only if that was the exclusive reason but also if it was the primary reason amongst others. Contrary to Squeezed’s interpretation, the Nat West statement does NOT state that to be the case. In fact it confirms that would not be bank policy... Indeed, Dappy. That is exactly why they said: "Dear Mr Farage, I am writing to apologise for the deeply inappropriate comments about yourself made in the now published papers prepared for the Wealth Committee. I would like to make it clear that they do not reflect the view of the bank.
I believe very strongly that freedom of expression and access to banking are fundamental to our society and it is absolutely not our policy to exit a customer on the basis of legally held political and personal views." I realise that facts are difficult for you. So, in simple terms, they have apologised that that their actions were not in line with either their values nor with their policy. ie They fucked up. Now that I've brought you up to speed, please do keep up Dappy.

Nigel is going for it, the apology (such as it is) hasn't helped, he is now accusing Dame whatist of leaking his confidential bank details to the BBC after a dinner party, he is applying for more bank disclosures on the subject.

The bank has confirmed that there were derogatory comments about Farage in its teport. We agree on that. The bank has rightly apologised for that. The bank has confirmed that it is not its policy to exit customers based on their political views. Nowhere in its statement does the bank confirm that Farage’s account was closed exclusively or primarily because of his views. I know you want that to be the case. I know you have persuaded yourself it is the case. It may even be the case - we just don’t know. Farage could release the bank from its confidentiality obligations and allow us to see the facts. He chooses not to. Some may find that reality telling. We have been going round in circles on this for long enough now. Unless the facts emerge, I’ll leave it here.

It actually stands by the closure by confirming that the offer of the NatWest account still stands.

For the benefit of Dappy and AndyBrown: "Dear Mr Farage, I am writing to apologise for the deeply inappropriate comments about yourself made in the now published papers prepared for the Wealth Committee. I would like to make it clear that they do not reflect the view of the bankI believe very strongly that freedom of expression and access to banking are fundamental to our society and it is absolutely not our policy to exit a customer on the basis of legally held political and personal views." And since NatWestiCoutts have already admitted that Mr F meets their financial requirements, you're back to square one: There is no other basis for the decision. Hence their apology, hence the likelihood of further preventative legislation. So nice cognitive dissonance, but no cigar.

Dappy has a point, it is cleverly worded and see which way the pendulum swings, the Farage is not stupid he will know that, it is the opening gambit. Dappy does not have a point. The letter of apology is not cleverly worded, according to Lord Moylan who read it on live TV it was clumsily worded. As I said previously it's an obvious attempt at damage limitation which has failed miserably. The letter of apology which Dame Alison Rose was instructed to issue by the Treasury, neglected to mention any of the salient points which Farage want's answers to. Namely, why was his bank account closed, why did three members of his family have their bank accounts closed. Why did Coutts give personal customer information to the BBC and the press, which incidentally is not in question and is against the law. I suspect there's all sorts going on behind the scenes, and I sincerely hope Farage decides to sue.

If an official report by the bank does not reflect the views of the bank whose views do they reflect?.. I'd love to know what company does the PR for Coutts - one wonders how much longer they will be in business.

I'd love to know what company does the PR for Coutts - one wonders how much longer they will be in business. This is the second time in last couple of months I have been struck by what seems to be gigantic levels of incompetence in corporate governance. The bud-lite thing is another example. In many of these organisations there doesn't seem to be anyone with power or influence that still has intact basic mental faculties.
