Oh it's quite simple, I'm looking for an answer - it is supposed to be a discussion forum after all. Why wouldn't you want to buy Lamb from New Zealand, Pineapples from Costa Rica, Bananas from Columbia, Asparagus from Kenya etc etc.. What do you gain? Indeed. We can buy from just about anywhere so why wouldn't you want to buy pineapples from the Philippines or Indonesia instead of Costa Rica? So why would we not want to? - what is your objection?

"Buying from just about anywhere" is indiscriminate buying to me. And indiscriminate buying is not good for the economy. A country has to be selective rather than indiscriminate.

If someone wants to buy widgets from Timbukto why should the State intervene to prevent it?.

Buying from just about anywhere is indiscriminate buying. We don't want indiscriminate buying. We want to be selective. I said "we don't want to buy from just about anywhere..." Where and when did I say that the State should prevent indiscriminate buying? This is just you inserting and insinuating another point of argument once again. Isn't it?

Coming from an amateur who doesn't know that the "S" in FTSE100 stands for "Stock?"

Keeping repeating the same old thing is pointless - what is the problem with buying from anywhere who can supply what you want?. What countries don't you want to buy from?

This is just you inserting and insinuating another point of argument once again. Isn't it? And who is this 'we'? Grammatically, the "We" in the sentence refers to people in general. It's in the first person, plural, impersonal form. Just like when you use "you" in the second person, plural, impersonal. If you don't want to use pronouns; then you can use "People." Shall I amend my sentence so you'll understand -- or are you OK now?

So you meant 'I' (like you used in your first sentence from that post), as there is nobody standing behind you backing up your ludicrous statement.
