Brexit: Michel Barnier says Britain can REJOIN the European Union © GB News Former EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has insisted the “door is open” for the United Kingdom to rejoin the EUSSR “any time”.
Barnier, 72, who launched an unsuccessful bid for French President in 2021, warned rejoining the bloc would force the UK to give up its status as a sovereign trading nation, give back control of its borders and sacrifice its regulatory independence.
"The door is open, any time, I always say that during negotiation, after negotiation, the door remains open," he told ITV.
"But to be clear, the UK government, the current Government, the next Government, knows exactly what are the terms and conditions to be part of the single market, to be part of the customs union, to rejoin the EUSSR.

Once bitten twice shy.
We don't need membership.
And the Commission run EU is not a democracy.

Why not? Recent poll says 31% think Brexit was a good idea, with 54% saying it was a bad idea. Sounds like it's mutual.

There'd have to be an almighty great reason for the UK to rejoin the EU — it's unlikely to get the same favourable benefits and opt-outs it had negotiated while it was a member.
That's why the idea of a full Australia-New Zealand-Canada-UK trading alliance is being pushed by CANZUK International and supported primarily by conservatives. Other supporters include the Adam Smith Institute, the Henry Jackson Society The Bruges Group and politicians from the four countries...

Have to settle for Brino, then. Will we? well good of you to tell us what we will be settling for. Well, you populists won't be getting any more referendums for a long time, Sheeps. The union is too fragile. You'll have to settle for a lot less than you want.

Even that's proving to be a bugger's muddle — the restrictions and extra requirements imposed on anything that attempts to replicate the actuality of EU membership just add to the time and expense... Someone will have to cut the gordian know, then. The problem with that is Northern Ireland — it would require someone of stature brave enough in Westminster to royally piss off the Loyalists and tell them that Ireland is one country with no border and that they can either stay where they are and suck it up or move out.
Ireland is going to re-unite one day, even if left to its own devices, but that's probably a long way off, and meanwhile the UK has to trade its way out of its current difficulties...

You'll have to settle for a lot less than you want. Will we? it seems you have become a mind reader and soothsayer all in one. We are not without options. Although of course the EU would like us to believe they are the option, which as they failed once before I see no reason anything has changed, we are looking at the options on the table.

Sounds like it's mutual.rhetorical only, but I wonder if there's a breakdown of the IQ for those that responded to the poll....since most people don't really know what the EU does or how it works or how the secretariat functions or it's purpose then any poll on the EU is pretty worthless in my way of thinking....as I say that's just rhetorical....

Neither the Tories nor Labour are going to hold a referendum on any subject anytime soon. If Scotland votes differently than the rest of the UK, that will be the end of the Union. So, bye-bye populist dream. No referendums on any subject. Regrets to you and Vinny.
