From todays Guardian
" The National Crime Agency is preparing to pursue up to 100 lawyers it believes are helping traffickers abuse modern slavery laws to secure asylum for people entering the UK.
A potentially controversial sweep is being undertaken by the NCA, the British equivalent of the FBI, to identify solicitors who may be breaching their professional code or committing crimes by providing services to organised crime.
Ministers have claimed that Albanian criminal gangs are misusing the modern slavery and asylum system at a time when record numbers of people are referred to the Home Office as potential victims of exploitation.
The NCA has started the process of examining which lawyers may be assisting the criminal gangs, with the agency estimating that “tens” of solicitors could be involved.
Rob Richardson, the head of the NCA’s modern slavery and human trafficking unit, said the agency was in “target identification” mode.
He said: “One of the things that we’ve seen is an increase in how organised crime groups use third parties to abuse protective mechanisms.
“So it’s been well reported that there are concerns that particularly Albanian organised crime groups are frustrating law enforcement efforts by claiming that they are victims of trafficking or seeking asylum, and where we are particularly interested from a NCA perspective is how does the legal industry, how do lawyers, support organised crime groups to do that.
“So we’ve seen some examples where individuals have got scripts. They’ve been told exactly what to tell policemen to get picked up. And we have concerns about how that works.”
Good if they as many have suspected for some time if bent lawyers are working for Organised Criminal they want their arses kicked straight into Prison and Debarred for life

If they were serious they'd go about their business quietly to give them a greater chance of catching the criminals with their pants down

True, but they are looking at some Lawyers perhaps have been for some time, and already have identified some that maybe involved, I strongly suspect they have some good intelligence to go on

If I were a lawyer involved in such things. I'd be covering my back and being extra careful to make sure I wasn't caught off the back of such a useful warning. Dumb, dumb, dumb. National Crime agency should be doing not saying. Smacks of 'the less you intend to do about something the more you have to keep talking about it'

Excellent news and about bloody time. Lefty lawyers have been abusing human rights legislation for years and not just in respect of illegal immigrants either. Phil Shiner is one of the few who have been caught and struck off, hopefully in view of this latest initiative more will follow.

I also hope so, as many as they can, simply breaking the Code of Ethics is enough to get them kicked in to the long grass IMHO

They are crooked lawyers. Greedy grabbing lawyers who don't care about anyone and therefore more likely to be righty lawyers.

In this particular instance, where solicitors are providing services to the leaders of trafficking gangs, I think Zany may be right in that these are crooked lawyers motivated by the prospect of a big payday. That may even make them 'righties', but I don't know.
However the plain fact remains that the vast majority of lawyers (solicitors actually) who work to thwart the immigration regulations and who exploit the human rights legislation to the benefit of undeserving clients do so not for financial gain but out of altruistic principles. That makes thenm 'lefties' in my book.
Btw, the Immigration Law Practitioners Association (ILPA) has around 3,000 members while the Human Rights Lawyers Association has at least that many, maybe more.

Human Rights Solicitors/Lawyers/ Barristers such as Starmer, Cherie Blair, Mansfield etc are very likely to be to the left of the pollical spectrum and are also motivated by their own political views. and also very very lucrative paid for my the taxpayers more often than not

You do love a rant about these "Lefty Lawyers", don't you? A drinking buddy is one such solicitor. His practice has an enviable record in representing migrants, and that's nothing to do with "left" or "right" - that's simply about having an encyclopaedic knowledge (and 30+ years experience) of the relevant Legislation, and how it can be applied. He's also represented, out of interest, an EDL supporter found guilty (he pled guilty) of racially aggravated abuse. His "politics" are, if anything, solidly Conservative (because that's how he's always voted). There exist not so much "Left" and "Right" wing lawyers, as "Good" and "Bad" ones.

Indeed Walter, I do love a good anti lefty lawyer rant, and lets face it when it comes to lefty lawyers, there's plenty to rant about.
As Admiral Lord Nelson famously said ...
... you must hate the French, and lefty lawyers, as you hate the devil.

Wally doesn't seem to have cottoned on that anecdotal reportage, while sometimes interesting, is rarely persuasive.
