My daily driver is a 2017 Golf TDI, 150bhp 1290kg. My current 4x4 is a 3 door Toyota Rav4 mk1, 127bhp 1150kg but nowhere near as thirsty as the old Range Rover was. It has the same 3S-FE 2 litre petrol engine as the automatic version of the old Toyota MR2 sports car. Reasonably nippy, not bad off road considering it doesn't have a low range. It can tow caravans with ease and safety. If I were to mod it with a 3S-GTE engine, its performance would be vastly improved. The above car has 1 horsepower for every 2.3kg. But, I dread to think how much the modifications cost. I think a lot of those big SUVs use a 3.5 litre or higher so dropping to a 2.0L would obviously give better fuel mileage as long as it has enough power or grunt as they say.

They were wrong and it was a game changing car, hired one once to drive round the Mpnt Blanc area and loved it. The modern Rav-4 is also a very good vehicle but much much bigger than your one.

I used to drive a V8 Range Rover Vogue mk1, that was a hatchback, sort of. 165 bhp. 15 mpg. Happy days. Rusted though. I still drive a V8 Range Rover mk3. And tbf Vin it does more than 15 mpg, but not much more. Even though it's a 2010 it's still a nice car, and as Clarkson said, the L322 was the last of the proper Range Rovers, and I agree with him.

A real Range Rover is a go anywhere 4x4, really good cars. Expensive to look after though.
