Dan, one of my uncles fought in WW2 and witnessed the camps.
Deniers deserve to be pilloried.
There's enough eyewitness testimony and photographic evidence and enough bodies in mass graves.
The Holocaust happened, so did Holodomor, so did the Armenian Genocide as did the Cambodian Genocide.
History is littered with man's inhumanity to man.
It's time we recognised that our species has a capacity for evil.

Anyone who denies the holocaust is a complete and utter moron. Today's Holocaust is tomorrow's fish-wrap.
If you had visited Auschwitz during the 1980s you would have been presented with official plaques stating that the official death toll - as determined by a Soviet commission that visited in 1945 and whose findings were read into the record at Nuremberg - was 4 million, including at least 2.5 million Jews.
If you had disputed this figure you would have been pilloried as a denier and also, according to your lights, a moron.
And yet in the early 90s the Auschwitz State Museum’s history department announced that the number of victims that can be actually documented, based on on the numbering of inmates, letters linked to transports, and statistical lists made in Jewish ghettos, is 1.1 million, about 90 percent of whom were Jewish.
There are 4.8 million names in the Yad Vashem database. yvng.yadvashem.org/

The problem in Germany they have had a lot of US armed forces on their soil and Jewish mass immigration was allowed into Palestine on the basis of the discovery of the Holocaust. So if Germans started to decide the Holocaust was a Jewish scam they had no army to protect them.
Protect who from who? Well if we are talking immediately post 1945 Russia, US, France and UK remember they were forced to surrender unconditionally and had occupation zones imposed.

What I suspect is certain top Nazis knew, camp guards knew, certain Generals and some of the men.
Of course you still have the imprisoning of Jews and them and others being forced to work in factories and German people would have noticed this.
Most had no idea this is an excerpt from a transcript over a scene in the Eagle has Landed where Caine gets surrounded by the SS after trying to protect a Jewish woman in Poland.
The scene where the Fallschirmjäger (German paratroopers) meet Jewish people at a railway station while the Jews were on the way to extermination camps is based on a real event. It occurred in October, 1944, in the Netherlands. The paras gave some of their food to the children when suddenly SS guards interfered, pointing their rifles at the paras. But the SS were then surrounded by angry Fallschirmjäger and, in the face of this hopeless situation, they let the paras proceed.
