I don't think trolleys are the future, they may have been clean & quiet but the mass of overhead cables were an eyesore especially at junctions. I remember the Trolleybus services in Cardiff. The key thing was the corporation devised routes that didn’t get in each others way and it worked because of that. The premier trolleybus service ran from the docks and pier head dock gates up to the then merchant quarter up to the 1930 city boundary where the hospital now stands and across to llandaff cathedral before turning down the other wealthy quarter as was for the return trip to the city centre Twenty years after the last one ran, a diesel single decker plied the exact same route every 20 minutes, i used to catch the last one home from my wife’s parents when she was still just the girlfriend, and last week a shinier diesel was doing the exact same run. I’m sure the technical solutions could be found to the wiring issues and i’m bloody sure it would be far more eco friendly than christ knows how many tonnes of black mass batteries…
