Anyone else old enough to remember when we never had tomatoes and cucumbers in February? Last year I saw strawberries on sale in March and blueberries and raspberries any time of the year, though not all the time. I wonder if because of the cost of heating, I will see it this year.

Then again I say why? Why should anyone have to show support for Coffey advocating something they have been promoting themselves for decades? Why Bentley, why? Why praise a politician with a good idea? Perish the thought. I suspect that exchanging turnips with tomatoes is too revolutionary for even the most extreme environmentalists. They would may be content with going to the local farmers market and buying red tractor food. Well it was hardly her idea now was it. Like I say, environmentalists have been promoting the idea of eating seasonal, locally grown food for decades.

You may be right. Maybe it was worth using the event to relook at how much we rely on the convenience of supermarket food. Its a valid point. Fair enough. As an aside , I’ve read and heard about a system called vertical farming where the vegetables and fruit can be grown on a small footprint . This might be part of the solution. As much as I hate it , I accept that the future involves less personal travel and more 20 minute villages. I think the die is cast now. On the old forum I talked about this several times. I think its an excellent Idea. Further I think our vegetables should live in blocks of flats and us live in nice houses in the fields.

Of course we all know that she was being a patronising git but the eco worriers missed a trick there .

You think we should have massaged her ego by saying ''well done'' for suggesting something we've been doing for years? I doubt very much that she is forgoing tomatoes during the winter months.

We haven’t been doing it that’s the point . Instead of wrinkling their nose at her ..the eco worriers could of called her out to put her money where her mouth is and make it happen . Instead they seem to your stance .

Tasteless hydroponic crap that smell of stagnant water.

But you didn’t call her out to put her money where her mouth is and you wasn’t alone in not doing that so I was speaking for you and the rest of the Eco worriers . Being a veggie has nothing to do with it .

Wait, first I was supposed to praise her for telling me to do what I already do and now I'm supposed to criticise her for not doing what she's telling everyone else to do. Heads you win tails I lose huh? We all need to eat less meat if we are to save the polar bears.
