Can't see removing the cap on energy in April going down very well with voters. I expect you're right.

Yeah, only six months help on energy bills. Need to end the war in Ukraine as it is the only way to cut bills before help I expect. I didn't comment either way. I think a more targeted approach to helping people with heating bills is sensible, as would scrapping all this net-zero nonsense. But Hunts announcement sounded more like something you would expect to hear from a Labour chancellor. We all need help when bills could quadruple Red. Only Labours idea of turning us into a big fuck off windmill will do. This hasn't much to do with heating and everything to do with keeping the lights on right now.

What has happened is the Tory paying membership decided the next PM.
I suggest at least 60% of these Tory members were businessman interested in paying less tax and so we got Truss.
She was flushed with a chance to showcase her low tax ideology and misread the markets.
The markets will jump on any chance to make money and our figures were not good.
Hunt will realign the economic policy and then we see if she can survive.

Ref heating bills, the chancellor hinted he may come up with something else. Tbh I think it's a no brainer. It will be too close to a general election for him not to come up with 'something'.

They will come up with something, but it will have to be something we could afford and as such it won't touch the sides. The idea this crisis has nothing to do with Ukraine (not aimed at you), is a joke. Ukraine will soon enough hit a brick wall, Russia will train up their reservists and then we will be left with high bills and a shit load of dead Ukrainians. Rather than play these pissing contests, end the war, increase the gas in the market and cut the bills that way. Everything else is like using a bucket on the Titanic to stop it sinking.

This stands a very real chance of talking the thread off on a tangent, however. Yes of course Ukraine is at the centre of the crisis, but that's because Europe and to a lesser extent the UK, were reliant on Russian gas. Putin actions combined with net-zero have massively increased the price of gas which affects everything. We could help ourselves a lot more if the government binned this net-zero nonsense.

So how come the gas price started climbing in May 2021 9 months before the invasion?

As I pointed out earlier - tax increases mean less growth.. Less growth does not equal success.. Similarly, I'd guess that those on average incomes will rein in spending with the prospect of massive energy hikes from April. That would certainly hinder growth.

So how come the gas price started climbing in May 2021 9 months before the invasion? What about the cliff edge the day they invaded. Just be grateful they dropped a little lately.

True, apparently a week or so 'before' the 9/11 attack the World stock markets were making 'strange' moves, in other words the ones behind it knew what stocks would go up and what would go down right after a attack of that nature, it's one way of getting a notion some big event might be happening. Putin would of course been able to work that out given he knew the exact timing of his Ukraine war.

Well, at least Berkeley won't be PM any time soon, although to be honest, not being the brightest bulb in the box, he probably doesn't realise that.

So how come the gas price started climbing in May 2021 9 months before the invasion? Heating oil prices trebled from August 2021 to somewhere in October 2021, they're still double the last August price. When I asked, about a year ago, my oil provider said that one of the major refiners was in financial trouble; I've never found out the truth of that.
