Met Police report: Hundreds of officers getting away with misconduct Hundreds of Met Police officers have been getting away with breaking the law and misconduct, a damning report has found. Baroness Louise Casey found many claims of sexual misconduct, misogyny, racism and homophobia were badly mishandled. One serving officer had 11 misconduct notices for allegations involving assault, sexual harassment and fraud. Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said the findings showed hundreds of his officers should have been sacked. The interim report on misconduct procedures and the culture in the Met also found misogyny and racial disparity across the force's internal disciplinary system, with a "systemic bias" against black and Asian officers. It's well known, across the public sector, that supervisors are reluctant to tackle misconduct by ethnic minority staff for fear of being accused of racism. We all know that. If Baroness Casey can get something so fundamental so wrong then it casts doubt on the value of her report as a whole. It's undeniable that there are serious issues in the Met but I doubt that anything will change since it appears, once again, that the powers-that-be are studiously ignoring a large part of the problem. |

What's a "Systemic" bias anyway? Is it like "Institutional Racism" - something that doesn't actually exist but we have to pretend that it does?
If you honestly beleive that supervisors aren't reluctant to tackle black and Asian staff then you seriously need to take your head out of your arse.

This is why so many people have little respect for the Police. For years some officers have behaved like an occupying force and enjoy themselves stopping people and ordering them around — in some instances, actually trying to goad those they’ve stopped into reacting. Officers at Stoke Newington Police Station (my nearest) were guilty of dealing drugs. The old premises on that site had such a bad reputation, it was pulled down and rebuilt. As a kid I was given “the talk” by my parents. I’ve given the same talk to our two. I’ve listened to the new commissioner, and I’ve listened to others before. They’ve said all the right things— they might actually have meant them — but nothing changes. Maybe this time…? |

Not a chance, my friend, not a chance.
I can tell you exactly how it'll go down: Misconduct by Senior officers will continue to be ignored. So the Chief Super that touches up his secretary will be placed on gardening leave while it's swept under the carpet. Same as it's always been.
The Wayne Couzens of this world will go into the "Too difficult" box until they do something really serious. As will any ethnic minority officer guilty of wrongdoing because of the management's fear of being accused of racism.
So they'll be left with the low hanging fruit: A few hapless PCs will be hung out to dry for honest mistakes or something minor like a parking ticket so that the brass can show how "Serious" they are about dealing with "Misconduct".
And meanwhile, the scandals will continue.

Like for example if we had a system of employing one woman for every one man and yet less women applied for the job - that would be systemic bias. |

I know next to nothing about the problems within the Met, but I don't understand what Casey might bring to the party. Having read one of her reports I was left with the impression it was designed to produce the result required by the investigation's commissioner (the one I read was subsequently heavily criticised).
Does anyone know why the Baroness was Chosen?
